I cannot believe that this is a real word

..and that it doesn’t at all mean what it sounds like it should mean.

crapulous

a literary word meaning ‘relating to drunkenness or the drinking of alcohol.’ Like the related adjective crapulent and noun crapulence, it comes from a Latin word meaning ‘inebriation,’ itself based on a Greek word meaning ‘drunken headache.’

(I got it from Erin’s Weird and Wonderful Word of the Day, via Oxford University Press)
